After graduating from medical school in Argentina, Dr. Illanes became a research associate at Harvard Medical School. He went on to complete his OB/GYN residency training in 2008, immediately followed by three years of subspecialty training in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (Urogynecology).

During his fellowship training at the University of Massachusetts, Dr. Illanes worked as a research associate in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute investigating the use of stem cells for the repair of the damaged pelvic floor in mice. This novel research was presented at two national meetings of advanced gynecologic surgeons.

Throughout residency and fellowship, he received formal vaginal surgery training from Drs. Stephen Young and Michael Aronson, both prestigious surgeons of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons.

Dr. Illanes is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, an associate fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians & Gynecologists, an associate member of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons and a member of the American Urogynecologic Society. His main clinical and surgical expertise is the evaluation and management of urinary and fecal incontinence as well as the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse (vaginal bulges). He has a strong interest in fistula repair and complex gynecologic surgery.
